Niu Early Learning Centre

“A warm and caring place where the Tongan language and culture are encouranged used throughout the day”
Niu Early Learning Centre is managed by the Tongan Canterbury Community Trust.  It’s a registered Charitable Commission, Not for Profit organisation.  It is bi-lingual and lays the foundations for youngsters to learn and prepare for primary school.
We have been operating in the region for over 12 years and have a full compliment of 50 children under the age of 5.
We have registered teachers and support staff who make the centre a pleasant and conducive place for children to learn and enjoy pre-school.

On the 9th March 2013, we have open our new home and location at 221 Woodham Road, Linwood North, CHRISTCHURCH.

We are no longer situated at 465 Greers Road, Bishopdale.

Preschool Name:
The Niu is the name of the coconut tree in its entirety. Each part has a use for eating (the coconut flesh), drinking (coconut milk), building shelter (leaves and trunk) and bags (softer leaves). It is also the main symbol for Pacific nations as it’s the common tree in all Islands.
The name also relates to our efforts to develop young children so they contribute to society and considered a member of the wider society by sharing their uniqueness and individual talent.
In a wider sense, the name also symbolises the important parts of each stakeholder that has brought about this new venture: TCCT Board, PTA, Teachers, community, children, Linwood North Primary School, MOE, etc)
