Services

TCCT provides a wide range of services which include the strategies with kids information programme (SKIP), health programmes, cultural support advice, advocacy support, earthquake recovery and budgeting and social service delivery.

SKIP – we deliver the “Strategies with Kids – Information for Parents” programme to the Tongan fanau of Canterbury and other parts of the South Island. It looks at influences on parenting and caregiving, cultural issues, use of physical discipline, readiness to engage with SKIP, engagement with community organisations and other professionals, and strategy fundamentals. It also describes how the findings have been incorporated into the design of the SKIP programme, and informed subsequent implementation and communications activities.
If you would like to be part of the programme please contact TCCT now.

Health and fitness – we deliver the HEHA programme and other events that promote active physical activities. We also provide community health checks through our Pacific Trust Canterbury network. We have Pacific Trust Canterbury providing health checks and blood tests before you undertake any physical training. We can also provide a smoking cessation support worker to help those who want to quit smoking. We deliver the following:

    • Zumba get fit classes every Saturday – Free to the community
    • Nutrition workshops and advice
    • Smoking cessation through Pacific Trust Canterbury
    • Health checks through Pacific Trust Canterbury
    • Community gardening programmes

Community advocacy – We advocate for the Tongan community and support those who needs advice and guidance. Language and cultural barriers are a concern and we provide facilitators and translators as part of the programme.

Education – We deliver home work classes for secondary school students as well as computing classes for the community. We also provide early childhood education through the Ako’anga Teu Tonga Early Childhood Centre for 26 children under the age of 5. We have set up the computer room and will be running the community classes shortly. Those who would like to attend, please contact TCCT on 9433976.

Earthquake Recovery Assistance – we are being funded to provide advocacy support, advice, counselling, information and guidance to all those in the community affected by the earthquake. Please note that TCCT has made announcements on the Radio programme outlining the assistance available and what we can do for you. All those who need further support and direct assistance, please contact TCCT on 9433976 or:
